The MAyfly Project
The Mayfly Project is a national nonprofit that mentors children who have experienced foster care through fly fishing, using time on the water to build connection, confidence, and a sense of stability.
This documentary was an opportunity for me to step into that world and document those relationships as they happened in real time. Filmed across four states, the story follows mentors and youth through moments that are often unscripted, emotional, and deeply personal.
The film was officially selected for the Fly Fishing Film Tour, the largest fly fishing film tour in the country, and was showcased across multiple venues throughout the year.
Throughout production, I worked closely with youth in foster care, which required a thoughtful and adaptable approach behind the camera. Combined with the unpredictability of weather and outdoor environments, the process demanded flexibility while staying present to capture honest, meaningful moments as they unfolded.
The Mayfly Project is currently running in the Fly Fishing Film Tour and will be release soon.
